WANDA GÁG READ ALOUD BOOK AWARD 2010

Minnesota State University Moorehead

The Wanda Gag Read Aloud Book Award for children's literature, sponsored by the Curriculum Materials Center at Minnesota State University, is for the best picture book of the year to read aloud to younger children. All picture books eligible for the award are file tested with children and more than 20,000 children voted.

I also won a "twist" contest when I was 12 at Ilena Ficarra's birthday party. I was awarded a super rad Sheena Easton album for crushing it on the dance floor. In fairness and full disclosure, my only competition happened to be the elderly grandparent of the birthday girl who recently had a hip replacement... I beat the pants off him anyway.

SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL

"Young readers and story time attendees will delight in the antics and receive a timely lesson in hygiene as well."

KIRKUS REVIEWS

"The cautionary tale here hardly lurks, but it's not out waving an admonitory finger either; the medium of this message is gross fun."

DEVON CORNEAL, HUFFINGTON POST

"Redmond's first foray into children's books is an adorable rhyming tale of a little girl with a cold who visits the zoo–with unexpected results. The humor is contagious (pun intended), and the illustrations are muted and gorgeous. You can help your kids find the icky germs handprints on every page and maybe, just maybe, teach them the importance of tissue."
